Into the Fire Swamp

Wasn't intending to be 100% done with this, but accidentally merged the layers and then saved, so now it has to be done :/. Oh well, I guess it saves me from the inevitable endless fiddling over it. I'm heartbroken over my lost layers nonetheless, and praying my teacher doesnt ask for many changes. Ugh *facepalm* This will teach me to always save two separate files. The weird thing is I had a very prophetic dream last night about losing this project (and my laptop with it) and woke up in a panic....  I should have known to be careful with it! Is it a full moon or something?

Character Expressions

A few of Princess Buttercup's expressions for my thesis. Anyone know if there's a job catered specifically to character expressions? Cuz if there is, I want it. Love doin' this stuff.

Slowly but surely...

Attempting to get my black and white dummy book for my final project finalized before I send it off to get printed.... Also, wishing I had done my sketches digitally... the graphite is so smudgy and just doesn't scan in well :/ Here is about the first half. The adorable story was written by my uncle Kevin Blum for my little cousin Marley.

Portrait of my Childhood

This is something of a childhood self portrait, seeing as I spent much of my childhood either drawing horses or riding them (albeit never both at the same time, a little artistic license never hurt anybody). Thinking about using it as a business card illustration/promo mailer/both? If it ends up being a mailer I will add in a background soon. Tried in both acrylic and digital. I am always inclined towards painting by hand (i.e. not digitally) and yet I always end up liking my digital stuff better. Oh well.

Back in the game...

So.... It's been a rough semester. Each semester has seemed to get progressively more challenging, but this one was by far the worst. Haven't posted much on here simply because I haven't had much to show that I'm proud of. However, in the end my hard work did pay off, and while I didn't necessarily pass with flying colors, I passed nonetheless. I even managed to get a B on the piece below, which was something for me to be very proud of considering I had been struggling to get C's and C-'s all semester in this class. I've been taking a 2-week mental health break from art, to reassess everything and get to a point where I could face the terror of a graphite pencil and a blank page in front of me, and I think I'm at that point. So here's my Drawing From Imagination final project, and in the coming weeks I will be finishing my black-and-white dummy book for my final project and posting those on here as well. Also planning on doing A LOT of sketching and attending many workshops once they start up again, and will be posting that as well. BIG thanks to everyone who helped me a long the way, couldn't have done it with out the help of my great and very talented friends. Just felt the need to explain myself/vent a little. Now, back to art!

Fine Art! Finally.

Finally getting around to posting some of the paintings I did in Situation and Environment last semester.... Please pardon my crappy camera. Had to leave the flash on in some of them because my camera does not function well without it.

Also, big thank you to my lovely models, my roommate Lisa (who has put up with me painting/drawing her like 5 million times now), my fellow Art-Slaves Nicole and Anais, and my devastatingly handsome boyfriend Broc.

Buh-luddd

Actually enjoyed this weeks DFI homework, which is pretty much a miracle. Miracle #2 is that I was finished with it by this morning, and able to do the extra credit (values).

Final Project Color comps

A little premature seeing as I won't be dealing with color til next semester, but thought I'd get a few things more finished-looking for leuyen. Also, I was procrastinating on Drawing from Imagination homework, go figure. Now, off to yoga!

Final Project Character Designs

Some rough character design sketches and thumbnails for my final thesis project. The characters are supposed to be a 5-6 year old girl, and a dragon that at first seems fearsome, but is actually friendly. Any feedback is appreciated! :)

New tablet!

This is my first blog post in a long while. After a few "minor" digital setbacks (i.e. my macbook with my whole life on it was ruthlessly stolen), I now have a new mac up and running, and with a slew of new adobe products, and also a brand spankin' new wacom tablet. Below is my first experiment on it, I felt out of practice and rusty, so perhaps starting with a full portrait wasn't the best idea, but oh well. Hopefully I will have some better things to show soon as today was the first day of the semester, til' then bear with me!
